What is classed as personal injury would be anything relating to damage to the mind or the body. The most common example would be a car accident. Two cars collide or a car collides and a physical object and the driver or other occupants are injured -- broken leg, cuts, bruises, whatever. Anything like that is a personal injury.
Other examples would be severe psychological trauma, so intentional infliction of emotional distress -- some outrageous act done to somebody that doesn't necessarily cause a physical harm to somebody but does cause harm to their mind -- and that is an example of personal injury.
